1. You feel that you giving to the Mercy Corps is comparable to Romney giving to the LDS church, even though Mercy Corps is obviously the superior choice for you.

I didn't make a judgement (and have no information as to the correctness of) where Tim imagines Romney's charitable deductions go. I'm questioning Tim's implication that giving to 'society' is important.

2. The rest of the world has no impact on your society, but you like humans well enough to help them anyway.

Helping people is important. 'Society' (American or otherwise) is an abstract concept that can take care of itself, if the people are ok.

I have no idea whether giving to the LDS church helps people, or whether that's where much, most, or all of Romney's charitable deductions go. I suspect that people who give to churches do that because they think that doing so helps people, or perhaps because they think it helps society, or maybe just because they thing God requires it.

The rest of your questions mostly rely on the correctness of things I never said, nor intended to imply.
