Now tax credits Republicans created/expanded as "tax relief" (remember that term?) for the abused middle class makes the same people "freeloaders." The child tax credit in particular grew dramatically under Bush, and I believe it had already risen under Clinton. The first time home buyer credit is a more recent but similar example. Anyway, that is your explanation: Many middle class families receive so many tax credits they have a net federal income tax benefit, and the GOP that demanded those things as an indispensable help to for the overtaxed middle class now condemns them as proof of freeloading.

That is correct - some folks have such negative income taxes, it offsets payroll as well.
