It would be like having a newbie come to the site and running into Tom first. I could add an apology to it, like: "Yeah, sorry about that. We're not all so abrasive." OR, I could just say: "We are not all so abrasive. Do not judge us by the actions of this person." I do not see the latter as anything but a statement, but I can see how the leap can be made.
