WE have not apologized to anyone; the embassy staff (unsuccessfuly) tried to prevent a riot. Joel Send a noteboard - 12/09/2012 08:35:16 PM
Again, the US government in the person of Obama has disavowed that apology, so if you want to criticize anyone for the apology your only legitimate target is our Cairo embassy staff (i.e. the people attacked.)

Regardless of whether the embassy was trying to "head off attacks", it is not the responsibility of the Federal government to apologize for the non-criminal acts of private citizens. A more appropriate response would be to ensure that security was stepped up, period.

From the admittedly little I have seen on the events, it looks like both we and the Egyptian government dropped the ball on that one, because the protests were openly promoted well in advance of the riot yet most of Egyptian and US security went home before it started. Evidently they did not take it seriously.

Your response is so clearly self-serving (though for once, to the point) that I find it laughable. The Left supports dictators to avoid anti-American mobs? Like Hell it does. The Center of the Democratic party (Hillary, for example) may be loathe to see dictators toppled for security reasons, but the LEFT supports them out of a knee-jerk anti-Americanism, as I pointed out in my earlier post. Kucinich was aiming at the US and at NATO as "criminals", McKinney was supporting an anti-colonialist (read: anti-American) crusade. I didn't ask a question. I asked a rhetorical question for which the answer was clear. The Left supports dictators to score points against the US government, which it sees as the greatest evil on earth, no matter what party is in power.

What is self-serving is condemning the Left for supporting Mubarak (when they did not actively support the revolution) then condemning them for supporting the revolution (when they said Mubarak should step down, but offered no ACTUAL support.) Anything and everything they do is wrong; I get it. Kucinich did not say anything Congressional Republicans did not repeat when they suggested impeaching Obama on the grounds his Libyan fly-overs were unconstitutional, so that is not really a left/right issue. McKinney is far left, no doubt, but also a total whackjob, which is why the Democratic Party threw her out; neither the left nor even the far left as a whole is any more responsible for her than the far right is for Westboro Baptist, though I was horrified when the Greens nominated her for president in '08.

Also, if you will refer to my post, I was asking whether Egypt had apologized for their mob, or taken any actions to find the people responsible for its attack on the embassy.

I have not followed this closely, and it only happened yesterday, but my understanding is the Egyptian government is seeking those responsible to apprehend them and hold them accountable, but has not apologized for the acts of private citizens.

Finally, don't act indignant that this issue has become political, given that you've politicized virtually anything and everything that you can, and this sort of thing is politicized in any campaign year and you know it.

I am a little disgusted the GOP is once again trying to politicize the death of Americans at the hands of Islamic extremists, but frankly amused Romney got nearly all the pertinent facts wrong and every foreign policy wonk in BOTH parties is aghast at how inept at foreign policy it makes him appear. Still more amusing are all the die-hard anti-Obama-at-any-price Republicans still repeating allegations they know are false. If you want to dig your own grave you may do so with my blessing.
