She didn't just kill the guy; she chopped off the head, went to the town square and tossed it to the ground in front of everyone. It's intense, and based on what I've heard, she had every right to kill the guy. As I'm sure most at this site are aware, I have no concern about what happens to corpses, so the post mortem decapitation is viewed by me as a wonderful performance art.
Again, if capital punishment has any value as a deterrent, it should be effective here. Not only did she kill her rapist, but by shooting him in the offending member, then publicly disgraced him by dumping his severed head in front of the whole town and declaring him a rapist. It is like Jael and Sisera on steroids. So, yeah, sounds like we are on the same page here. Of course, if it turns out she made up the allegation it is an appalling atrocity, but it seems unlikely she would just decide to brutally murder a family member like that without provocation such as she stated.

I couldn't disagree more with your summary. Way to sound like a civilized world, ca. 2012.

I never said she should assume every approaching male a rapist, and therefore shoot him.

If there is no chance to order them out, or they respond threateningly to the order, sure.

True, but I can understand it; there is a lot of stigma attached to being raped, often self-imposed.
