you're talking about what people who already follow these things do

since these things are all so scripted to begin with, have the speakers submit their scripts to the major news outlets who will be broadcasting the conventions. these networks then run fact checkers on all the talking points in each speech and put up a small blurb with the actual truth each candidate is trying to twist to support their platform. we all already know each candidate is trying to twist and spin the facts to portray their opponents as something other than what they are, let's have their words thrown back at them in real time coverage too!
One of the few things that is good about the conventions is that it is for 3 or 4 days the media can't filter the whole damn thing. It is good that for occasionally we get things live and unfiltered. Wait an hour later or the next day in the newspaper for the media to call flat out lies bs.
Now I personally loathe the conventions for other reasons. Conventions are not about how the political parties are really going to govern, this is just in a window into their souls and shows how they would act without reality kicking in. It is pure Id. Sure it is pure BS but it shows the best and worse of the parties.
what i'm saying is that more people would probably be interested to see whether or not a candidate's talking points are actually valid. and it would have the added benefit of keeping the speakers from distorting too far since they know their words will be scrutinized in real time. the people who tune out because of the lying would have a greater incentive to pay attention, the people who already pay attention are already checking the papers and other sources the next day.
