Cycling was dirty during his heyday... but that was how he fought hard to keep it and he was happy to ruin the careers of people who tried to clean the sport up for no better reason than he could.
That's just ridiculous. Even if you take it for granted that he did take doping, as you do, that paragraph is plain ridiculous. Both the notion of him "fighting hard to keep cycling dirty" and the notion of him somehow being all-powerful to ruin careers of people.
