I'm planning a trip to Edinburgh, probably in the last week of August if I can book a cheap flight. Otherwise I'll go in September. I'm doing this on my own and I've never been to the UK before. Why I decided on Edinburgh (instead of London or some other city in the UK) is pretty unclear, it just sounded like an interesting place based on my sister's recommendations.
Let us know your timings. There are 5 or 6 of us here, depending on timing, so we should go to a pub or summat. My parents are here August & very early September so we have babysitters.
So, I'm asking for tips: What is there to see/do in Edinburgh? Information on an affordable hotel/hostel would be really welcome, too, but that might be asking for too much.
Mix's list is good, as is Legolas'. What kind of accommodation do you want? Hostel, hotel, B&B? Can give you a good idea, I think, if you state which you'd prefer.
The Edinburgh gay scene is something I think I have to check. And I love running and hiking.
If you stay in the SYHA in Haddington Place (top of Leith Walk) then you're very close to the best gay bars.

Or just walk down the High Street and watch the street performers.
