I do not remember any 911 jokes. Joel Send a noteboard - 09/08/2012 01:58:45 AM
Good old Loud-mouth made a joke the other night about the Colorado shooting. Went something like "the movie sucked anyway, I bet there was a guy sitting in the theater wishing someone would blow his brains out."

The audience was mixed but mostly positive, and in my opinion, the joke is mild. What bugged me was his prompt apology afterward. It wasn't a big deal but he seemed like he was trying to make it bigger.

Nobody likes an attention whore, and damn it if I didn't already think I detested this guy as much as I could.

Side point: let comedians tell jokes. Don't hold them to the same standard as a senator. Remember te 9/11 jokes? If we couldn't refrain then...

Generally speaking, however, I am content with the court of public opinion deciding the legitimacy of public figures public comments. If the reaction was mostly positive yet he promptly apologized it sounds like the joke was a deliberate pretext for the apology, which would make him the attention whore you called him. Exploiting a tragedy to draw attention is, IMHO, a lot worse than tame jokes about it (OTOH, I have never been impressed with him either, so small loss.)

On an unrelated note: Long time, no see; how are you and your little one? The latter got me in trouble recently, btw, because I used your spelling of her name in reference to Lenes best friend (who spells it slightly differently.) You still on Skype? Jeg trenger folk å øve norsk med. ;)
