Do you have strong feelings/opinions about gun control?

I used to be vehemently anti-gun but my opinions have evolved over the years. Still, my knee-jerk reaction to the news on Friday morning was "tell me again how guns don't kill people..." Then I thought about it for a long while. I've lived with responsible gun owners several times over the years. Do I want to take their guns away? To me the answer is clearly no. In fact there was at least two occasions where I was glad to have that sort of security in the house.
My next thought was: cue the anti-gun fanatics who point to this example in Colorado as a very reasonable case in support of their cause. Cue the second amendment rights activists with misleading statistics and ridiculous rhetoric in support of their cause. Both sides have been vocal after this tragedy. There isn't a right answer to this. The question is how much are we willing to sacrifice to preserve second amendment rights. The answer varies and we will never have a concensus that makes everyone happy. Do you feel that gun ownership rights are worth the price we pay for them sometimes?
As an aside: the pro-gun rhetoric bothers me a lot more than the rhetoric from the other side. Retarded statements about inanimate objects not killing people bother the shit out of me. Tell me somebody armed with a rock or a knife could have caused the kind of carnage we saw in Colorado. No? Ok then stop using that arguement. I personally don't want to take away your guns if you are a responsible gun owner, but I do want to slap you when you use that particular line of reasoning.
Where do you stand on this? I personally will probably never own a gun, but I like the idea that I could. I don't think that one of the weapons used in the massacre (the AR15) should be legal to own though. I also think that some sort of phychological test should be administered to those who want to buy guns. The really hard part is who should decide what guns should or should not be legal, and who decides who is sane enough to own a gun. These aren't easy questions to answer. What do you think?

My basis is that people are people - subject to panic, confusion, and fear. *NM*
