So this past Wednesday during my family's annual beach vacation the Girl and I had made a plan to watch the sunrise as per our usual tradition. This year I decided to make it special for her told her we would make it into a mid vacation date and I'd prepare a breakfast picnic to take with us.
I woke up at 3:30 am and prepared some cheese filled crescent rolls, sausage patties, hash browns. I prepared each of us a plate and covered them. I then packed our plates up with the rest of our picnic supplies along with some Yoohoos and Moscato. At 4:45 I woke up the Girl and we grabbed our things. We walked down to the beach, spread out our blanket and enjoyed the breakfast I had prepared. We had agreed to write up a list of our 5 favorite memories and as we had a little less than an hour till sunrise I prompted her to give one every 10 minutes.
Then the sun began to rise, and we enjoyed the beauty of the moment and took some pictures. I asked the Girl if she was ready for her rose this week (as I had been giving her a rose a week since early February) and she said yes while she continued to take pictures of the sunrise. I presented her with a "Forever Rose" which was a red and white two tone rose preserved in lacquer and trimmed in platinum. The Girl admired the rose for a bit and then I turned it around for her and pointed out the engraving which said "Marry Me" and when the words sunk in I rose up to my knee and pulled out a ring pop (a joke between us) which was soon replaced by a little box.
I told the Girl that I loved her, how she made me feel and that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. I opened the box to show her the ring and asked if she would marry me. The girl replied "Absolutely" and I, shaking with excitement, slid the ring onto her finger. I laid the girl down, kissed her, and sang "Marry Me" by Train (one of her favorite songs).
We then spent the next hour enjoying the sunrise, taking pictures and calling her family to let them know the good news. I had already tipped off her mother and sister and they were getting ready to head out to spend the rest of the day with us.
A date is not yet set (some time next summer between the Girl's graduation and me starting PT school... if I get in...) but we are happy knowing that we will get to spend the rest of our lives together.
