Sacraments, shmackraments. It's all too works-based for my taste.

I would say my church, as a non-denominational setup, is somewhat ecumenical within Christianity. By that, I mean we're not going to sit around and argue about Catholics. (we have lots of "recovered" Catholics in our congregation )On the other hand, it doesn't mean a message of "You're okay, I'm okay, it doesn't matter about sin or what the Bible actually says" type thinking. We aim to be open to any and all who might attend the church, though you won't find our pastor backpedaling on biblical truths. Some people get caught up in that thinking and don't like to risk offending people's sensibilities. (which typically results in a limp-wristed, spineless, yet warm & fuzzy type faith)
As far as outside the church goes, i.e., with other faiths, it's perhaps more of an outreach. I might admire the morality of a Muslim, at least where we agree, but we do <not> pray to the same God, etc.

The sword might be grateful to the forge fire, but never fond of it.

Benedict has never been a uniter, he has always been a strict interpretor of church doctrine.
