Also, I really want to know which famous Italian city you were thinking of... I considered the god in question for a moment, but failed to make the link with the race/planet in question, and there were other more famous Roman gods that didn't seem to have any famous Italian cities or planets in this solar system named after them, either.
Rome, at the last minute I remembered that Romulus was blown up in the movie, that being the big issue the villain had with Spock and the Vulcans, he blamed them for it. So I added in the Roman God part, then I wasn't sure if Romulus and Remus were considered gods or not, or if so if they were major gods, so I added the city bit in, not knowing of any cities named for Vulcan. I almost scrapped the question.
