When you do a study like this and focus on such a small segment of the population, low income and under two, it leads one to believe that researchers isolated that specific group knowing or at least suspecting what the results would be. If the study was say 2500 children ranging in ages (and incomes) from 0-10, then it would be more valid.

I would think most people would agree that spanking a 1 year old is not something that is going to be helpful.
