brand/cost). It broke. Luckily, she was in a place where having a child was acceptable.
I'm fully aware of the problems with both. In fact, another very close friend messed up her birth control. However, it isn't just about contraception, which your argument seems to suggest. You can disagree completely with Obama's stated reasons, that's fine, but it isn't right to ignore that this is also about the preventative nature of the medicine.
I can fill up my fingers right now just counting the women I know who started the pill because their periods were debilitating (cramps, headaches, backaches, etc). In fact, my own sister used to miss days of work and school because she could barely move. And we all have a strong work ethic (never calling off if we can help it), so I would appreciate it if you don't go there.
I was once in conversation with my endocrinologist re: PCOS, another condition for which the pill might be prescribed. I know women who have endometriosis, and ditto for that.
Of course it is also about "family planning," and I understand if you're currently annoyed by the women who are pretending it's only about what I listed above. It's driving me nuts. Regardless, it makes sense to offer BC as cheaply and easily as possible. It costs thousands of dollars just to have a baby, and the drain on the system by poor, unprepared mothers/families is immense. The pill (often used in combination with another form of BC) is currently the most reliable method.
Oh jees, I've just Joeled.
I have nothing against contraception on religious grounds. I don't like the pill for other reasons, but even so, I don't think that it should be free because there are other effective means of contraception that are far less expensive.
In case you decide to reply by saying some people don't know how to put on a condom right, well, we can't save people from their own stupidity (case in point - the stupid woman in Michigan who won $1 million in the lottery, spent it all on a house and is now broke again) and stupid people can mess up the pill just as easily as they can condoms (e.g., forget to take it).

Yes, but "socialist American women" are usually the ugly ones that don't shave their armpits.

If the Catholic Church recognizes that exception, they would be well served to say so.

I don't give a flying fuck about the Catholic Church's position on this.
