Look at Spain - the conservatives got back in power there, but they're not stupid enough to waste their political capital on trying to dial back the gay marriage the socialists introduced. The same would be true in the UK, and a fortiori if the Conservative Party is the one to introduce gay marriage in the first place. But in general, too - gay rights are far more widely accepted among the young, even in more conservative places like the US. I don't see Cameron losing his grip anytime soon, and if at some point in the future the Conservative Party is dominated by people further to the right again, time will have moved against them and further eroded their support on that kind of issue. Besides, I'm not sure the Tories stand much of a chance of forming a government if their leaders are much further right than Cameron's crew is - he got the win by safely staying in the centre.
I'm not sure it proves he "has turned the Tories into a pro-gay-rights party" - Last thing I saw was that despite the fact that Cameron's current stance on gay rights being a vote winner for the party over a third of Tory MPs are expected to vote against gay marriage. I'm not sure his position is as strong as you think it is either - enough Tories prefer to be in power with Cameron than out of power with out him... but it does mean he is dependent on the coalition with the Lib Dems to retain power and leadership of the Tories, which in fact further weakens his position in the Tory party. If he makes one decent size stumble he could well be out and he has a number of places that could come from like the amount of political capital he has committed to the unpopular NHS bill and his strong ties to News International, in his favour of course Labour just don't have a leader people seem to be able to make themselves like.
My guess would be that in five years time (unless Cameron surprises me with how long he lasts), I would imagine the Tories will be behind the other main parties again on gay rights - they might not outright oppose gay marriage then (it is always harder and less popular to take away rights than give them) but I'd put money on any proposals that weaken or undermine gay rights to come from the Tories.

Anyone who includes hate in their ideology obviously missed the central teachings of Jesus.
