Granted, they're all connected to the university system in one way or another, but these are pretty conservative people I'm talking about.

Difficult to imagine 'hardline republican' and 'university' in the same sentence beyond "Hardline republicans criticize liberal university establishment". I'm not personally familiar with the reforms you're speaking of though, so I don't know much about that beyond him extending school voucher programs and some general discussion of hitting tenure... I happen to loathe the very concept of tenure personally which is a fairly common attitude amongst free market capitalists. If he's done anything else, you'd have to detail, Google's not very handy for fishing expeditions of that sort.

There's a very strong impression people here have of Jindal being a governor who is never in state. He gets a lot of criticism for always being out-of-state; a lot of people think he views the governorship as a stepping stone to something bigger. I don't think it's surprising that conservatives outside Louisiana view him more favorably than ones inside it, since that seems to be his audience.

Well I am pretty sure he and the entire GOP see his governorship as a stepping stone to something bigger, I men he lost a bit of favor after his SOTU speech but we have been rather loudly discussing him as an option for everything from president and VP to cabinet and senate for years now. I wouldn't think him very unpopular I mean you guys just had year weird-ass run-off off year election all of two months ago and he won by a massive landslide beating his nearest opponent by 40% and winning every single parish... this does not sound like an unpopular man. Unless he decided to strangle a puppy on camera in the last month or something.
