I want to look this up for myself before I say anything - you know how people get when a rumor pops up - but I have read that SGK has had trouble in the past with losing members due to being more like a large corporation than just a charity. Suing regarding the color or suing regarding the "for the cure" phrase seems a bit more like trying to protect themselves than caring that money is going to any charity. However, I can see how they might not want to let donors get confused, just in case the other charity is not valid.
At some point any sufficiently large charity ends up being more like a large corporation than anything else - kind of has to be, for the reason you name and many others. But looking it up first seems like a good plan.
I also think it's a no-brainer, but I did admit that my response was cynical. This is going to sound Joelish, but the VP for SGK is a woman who wanted to kill funding for PP (she was backed by Palin) when she ran for Governor. It feels so political, and it looks to me like this new rule came up at an opportune time. I could have the timeline wrong though - I haven't been able to find that information. As an aside, is it fair (I'll be looking that up too ) to deny them funds when they aren't yet guilty of anything? I don't know how it works with organizations instead of people.
I'm not sure what your question there is... do you mean, is it fair for you to deny them funds on suspicion of having cut aid to PP because of being closet pro-lifers? I'm not sure anyone other than you can answer that.
Seems to me that it's mostly the investigation in Congress that came up at an opportune time, but yeah, one would need to know whether they already had - and applied - this policy before, which isn't exactly information you can find out easily, unless you get lucky.
