The word professional used to have a well defined meaning. Now everyone has an opinion and an idea of what the word means and for the most part those idea doesn't really match what the dictionary says the word means. My idea of what a professional is differs from yours but if you ask the experts we are both wrong. If you ask everyone else the experts are wrong. So now the word has devolved to mean pretty much whatever the person speaking wants it to mean.

they must continue to update their education both in Pedagogy but also in their subject is so for instance a Middle School/Jr.High Science teacher must continue to go back to collage to not only update her/his Pedagogy knowledge but also their Science knowledge. Every day there is advancements in not only the Sciences but also in Pedagogy and people in the Teaching profession have to keep updated.

As people in the teaching profession have to go to collage and also have to continue with their education and because there are strict codes of conduct as well as ethical and moral obligations so yes they are professionals.
