As a teacher, I'm on the fence whether it should be considered a profession. The act of teaching is important, but I'm not so sure the occupation of teaching currently requires a standard of judgement much higher than that of parenting. We're trying to professionalize it; but I'm not at all confident that we are really there yet, however it looks on the surface.
