It's really shocking just how difficult getting information is without those wikipedia results at the top of google searches.
Also, Joel, I'm pretty sure wikipedia didn't say anything about stopping all legislation. They just want to stop this particular legislation. No one has said that pirating is good and should continue. Why you insist on lumping anyone opposed to SOPA/PIPA into the category of pirate/hacker/cyberterrorist is beyond me.

And ain't gonna happen. I am not lumping everyone opposed to these bills with pirates/hackers/cyberterrorists. However, anyone insisting NO law be enacted to prevent those illegal activities lumps THEMSELVES with pirates/hackers/cyberterrorists. Offering a superior alternative (as requested) is constructive, but demanding Congress preserve the inadequate status quo is a non-starter that will be dimisssed as such.
Nearly everyone agrees illegal activities should be prevented, one big reason SOME new law WILL be enacted. Anyone and everyone opposed to the legislation Congress is currently considering for that purpose should offer the requested alternative, else the current legislation will be chosen by default. Count on it.
