I am confused. Do Americans not do cake at Christmas?

The wonderful Allie Brosh wrote a blog entry last year that I have just discovered (from a different blog) comparing cake to pie. Pie wins.
In point #5 she argues that pie has more usability over the year. And then has cake at Christmas being the lowest point for cakeyness. But this makes no sense! Christmas has a cake all of its very own! You make it months in advance and fill it with booze! How is this not wonderful?
Do Americans not do this?
And what kind of pie would you have at Christmas?

Help me, RAFO. You're my only hope. Sad as that is. Well. Also untrue. I could ask Twitter but I think the Americans are sleeping and then the tweet will be lost in the mists of time before they get up whereas this post will sit here waiting for you.

We have different icing. It is not typically a very dense, flat sheet of solid icing. Like fondant.

Plus with loads of brandy used to "feed" the cake over the month before you ice it.

There are other birds which it's "acceptable" to eat at Christmas, other than turkey.

Fruitcake, I guess. But we don't coat it with disgusting icing. And it's not really cake. *NM*
