Yeah, I recall that link, and still do not entirely agree with it. Joel Send a noteboard - 22/11/2011 04:16:13 AM
I just read a brief article where the first words were

"Texas Rep. Ron Paul was the only candidate at a Christian forum on Saturday opposed to amending the U.S. Constitution to define marriage as a heterosexual union.

Also appearing at the Thanksgiving Family Forum in Des Moines, Iowa were Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Herman Cain, Rick Perry and Michele Bachmann"

Seriously, the ONLY ONE. And his reasons weren't for any tolerance-related issues- he's personally opposed to gay marriage- but for rock-solid Republican reasons, that he doesn't think more laws and more government interference will help things.

Yeah, I pretty much figured that; there is a reason Ron Paul once ran for president on the Libertarian ticket: He is a Libertarian, but knows he can only get elected as a Republican. He can be and is perfectly reasonable on some issues and utterly insane on others.
Ron Paul is a little nutty, and I'm definitely don't want him to be president, but when you compare him to people like Bachmann, Perry, or that foamingly hateful Santorum, he looks reasonable. It's surreal.

I agree with you about the Tea Party and OWS, in that I think both movements are stemming from a large, general dissatisfaction with the way things are going. I posted a graphic a little while back that summed it up nicely, I think. I've lost the link, but it was a Venn Diagram.

It said that OWS thinks corporations are the problem, and that Tea Party thinks the government is the problem, but that both parties can agree that corporations who use their wealth to heavily influence elected officials, who in turn give the corporations considerations, are the problem.

The image was less wordy.

The graphic made it seem like the two problems were equal, whereas I do not see a problem with expansive government power so much as excessive government neglect of laws against corporate exploitation it instead enables. It's like saying, "George Washington needs to understand that the REAL problem is not Benedict Arnolds treason or the British fighting the war, but our generals taking bribes to help the British." True as far as it goes, but the whole thing is the result of an enemy paying a supposed ally to ignore its duty and let said enemy exploit the power it already had, not the two of them empowering each other. Replacing the treacherous ally with a loyal one would solve that problem, but eliminating the allys position altogether would just give the enemy free rein to run amok.
