lets face it. all the jobs you just mentioned are jobs illegals take

America isnt a third world country, and there are just some things Americans wont do. and working on dairy farms, mowing lawns and bussing table are some of those things. Thats jobs we might do while in high school (if that) but someone who lives in a nice house in CT who wore a suit to work at Goldman isnt gonna start bussign tables. besides these jobs are not gonna pay her mortgage or her car payment, or her kids private French school tuition. In Pakistan or India or Mexico people would be happy to do these jobs at these wages but in modern day America its just not realistic. She has a degree and experience in finance, she shouldnt have to buss tables, or work at a bar, or start stripping.
*EDIT* Now as a dislcaimer, im just gonna say that if my husband lost his job in Finance/IT and it came down to our survival and paying for our house, he would work in a gas station cleaning toilets to make sure we were taken care of, but that attitude comes from growing up in a third world country where its dog eat dog and you have seen what poverty is. Thats not the case here in America. however, if it came down to working at Mcdonalds and selling her home she would do that(it would probably kill her pride), but I sympathize with her when she feels she shouldn't have to resort to that because she was great at her job and worked her ass off at Goldman for 7 years only to get the boot with countless others, Finance is a messed up field now and its hard to go back to school and find something else you are good at after so long.

I understand the point you're trying to make, but are those people making their mortgage payments by not working at all, despite being ABLE to work?
The point is not that "good jobs" are available. the point is that people saying THERE ARE NO JOBS are full of shit. There are jobs. period and end.
I totally get what you're trying to say, Aisha. Those people you know are stuck in a shitty position where there aren't any jobs IN THEIR PROFESSION. But there are jobs. That's all I'm saying. Sure, they may be shit jobs like bussing, flipping burgers, working manual labor with a lawn/garden company, wading through shit at a dairy farm or spending hours doing nothing but punching and binding note books. They may not give these people what they need, and they certainly will not give someone who was making six figures the lifestyle they grew used to. but they are better than nothing, and they are CERTAINLY better than sitting on your ass feeling sorry for yourself (I'm not saying this is what your friends are doing).
As for where, that does become part of the problem, particularly in small towns. I have a friend who can't get a job not because she's not qualified to work or because she isn't trying...there is just no job she's physically capable of performing in her town and she can't afford to go to other towns to work. And she also is in a situation where she can't just up and move. But, IMO, those are the people that need help. Not people who are capable of moving their families where jobs are. yes, I know that is rough on families. So is bankruptcy and debt.
