I doubt I could do any better without blind luck (and I had a bit of that this time with one of the Russian cities). My final score was 569,000.

I can get to 10 or 11 fairly easily, but from there it definitely involves luck for me. If I get a city in a small country that I know, I can just click in the middle of the country even if I've never heard of the city before. But if I get a city I've never heard of in Russia for example, knowing where the country is does me no good whatsoever.
