Re: let me ask you this about Cain Isaac Send a noteboard - 20/10/2011 07:05:43 AM
Doesn't it bother you that his response to the fact that independent analysis of his 999 plan shows most that most Americans would see a tax increase is that you shouldn't trust those independent analysis but go to his web page and look at his analysis? Couple that with the fact that he won't tell you who did his analysis and I am concerned. His foreign policy credentials worry me as well. He has tried to walk it back but he did say he would trade the prisoners in Gitmo for a US soldier but he should have known better than to say it in the first place. I don't know if we can run a guy that gaff prone against the media darling.

I think it will be Romney though. Perry just sucks to much at debate and the rest have no money and no infrastructure to take on Romney. Odd that with the rise of the Tea Party we will get the most liberal republican nominee in decades.

Not really, I don't believe anyone has actually done an "Independent Analysis" of the plan yet, TPC says it has and the media likes to claim that TPC is non-partisan, which is utter bull... and they are the same group that has previously given glowing reviews to Obama's 'tax cuts and potential growth that would result from them back in 2008. That doesn't mean Cain's analysis is unbiased obviously, but I'm waiting to see it scored by some actual conservative or libertarian think tanks who have done it in depth, and last I checked all were still doing introductory analysis after having only brushed it lightly prior to about a week ago when his numbers surged... and I think people are currently trying to decide if certain aspects of it might be considered VAT tax. I withhold all judgment until various sources I trust have had a chance to really dig into it... I don't actually care who did his analysis either, since Cain is a mathematician himself I expect him to have verified the math and will hold him to account if the math is bad, but I won't really buy into an "Analysis" people offer prior to around Mid-November, because this sort of plan has heavy feedback effects and I expect to hear people arguing about it before I'll care what they say.

As for foreign policy, well, he has no foreign policy creds, but almost nobody does and I don't think the public cares right now, not that they care most times anyway, 100% economy. I worry about gaffes, media being what it is, but the Gitmo rollback didn't bug me too much and I'm contrasting him with Romney and Gingrich and Perry, where gaffes are the lesser of evils where shortcomings are concerned. I'm not on the Cain Bandwagon yet, and probably won't be, but he's someone that for the moment I'm okay with and might even become an exciting candidate.
