It is an interesting article. Rebekah Send a noteboard - 12/10/2011 12:22:11 PM
Really interesting article on BBC news about there being an enormous cross-cultural difference in the way people behave when they drink. Apparently the message about alcohol being dangerous and that it can cause violent and/or promiscuous behaviour is just reinforcing this bad behaviour rather than making people more careful when they drink.

I think it's possible that might be part of it. I also think that teaching children from a young age that alcohol is nothing special - letting them have a little amount of it here and there with dinner, not getting drunk in front of them, making it seem as normal and boring as possible. Worked for my parents so it must work for everyone. ;)

I wonder how likely it is that policies will actually change to try and make especially young people stop binge drinking...don't need the article to point out that it's not working so well at the moment.

I agree with the author of the article: a culture shift is needed.

I strongly believe that (in the US) the high drinking age causes more harm than good - 12/10/2011 03:00:45 PM 383 Views
Agreed. I've felt that way for years. - 12/10/2011 05:42:19 PM 365 Views
