Circumstancial evidence is more like the victim was shot with a particular type of gun and the suspect owns such a gun. Then again, eyewitness testimony could also be circumstancial- if they didn't witness the crime taking place, but only testified that the suspect was seen near the scene of the crime or something like that. But I hope that's usually not what's meant by eyewitness testimony. That said, I know nothing about this case.
I've never heard an actual lawyer say that though, so maybe it's just hearsay.
