37000... It's interesting how it makes you remember how you know some of the harder words Isaac Send a noteboard - 23/08/2011 12:16:17 PM
What's interesting reading them, as I tried to recall what some of them meant and if I could put a reasonably firm definition to them, was that for the weirder ones I tended to remember why I knew them, and all most all summoned fairly amusing memories to mind like 'opsimath' which I remember encountering with polymath and being confused at the usage since it happened to be from someone who was a skilled mathematician and I'd looked both up kinda expect them to be something like trigonometry or calculus. Or oneiromancy, which I know strictly from once trying to compile every -mancy I could find for a game I was gonna run and I made an effort to commit them to memory. Pretty much all the words I had to stop and think about for a second and actually got came attached with some memory, which while I suppose it is not surprising, does leave me sort of wishing that for a lot of the really simple ones I could recall how I'd first heard and stored the word with definition.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
