Of course, some argue that conflation is far from novel.
It's become my standard method of pointing out the silliness that comes when people use 'space aliens' as stand-in as proxies for themselves, if only they had more power. When people do it with God, it's very recognizable. Folks who deplore the religious for doing it should learn to recognize when they're doing the same thing.
