When you have a health, should you not need insurance to protect it, to make sure that no one is caught with their finances and livelihood ruined after a health accident?
Health insurance demonstrably does not do this in the US. While medical expenses are the biggest cause of bankruptcy, the majority of people declaring bankruptcy due to medical expenses do have health insurance.
Would that be because people who don't have health insurance try their best to avoid expensive treatments even when they are required?
My point was simply that having health insurance doesn't guarantee that a medical problem won't ruin somebody's financial situation and/or livelihood.

It's determined by the state, but in most states, yes.
