It's amazing how many heismans the SEC can produce when they have semi-pro teams around them playing against amateurs. But while the experts have never been that great at picking out who the stars will be, they are usually pretty darn good at pointing out who will not be one, and why, especially after a year in the league. The experts are often taken by surprise by an unexpected talent, but players who lack basic fundamentals are kind of glaring.

Tebow is a great athlete without a skillset. This isn't basketball, where you can get away with that, and this isn't the NCAA, where the talent disparity can cover it.
