I'm actually intensely curious (in a cerebral way, not in wanting to see it happen!) what is going to happen. I mean, soooo much of their economy is based on cheap-ass labor and being able to sell cheap-ass items to places like the US. What happens when we're not buying the same quantities? And when our debt effs them up? And when it is no longer quite so profitable to invest there?
China has some big challenges ahead, but short of a truly dramatic economic meltdown in the West, I don't think a reduction in Western demand would be that catastrophic for them (obviously it'd reduce their growth by a good bit). Their local challenges - internal migration on a massive scale, aging population, tensions with the minorities - are more serious than that, I would think.
