What you need to do is start to add a bunch of people on there that you don't necessarily know, but that you enjoy reading their stuff. That's the beauty of Google Plus. It's like Facebook in that it lets you keep up with your friends, see their pictures, videos, etc. But it's also like Twitter, in that you can follow people, and they don't necessarily have to follow you back. And even if they do, you just put them in a particular circle and then check in on what they're saying when you want to.
