Tuor definitely had his dark moments (and didn't have Thingol to offer even temporary sanctuary; he had to hide in caves), especially when Maeglin entered the picture. The main difference I see is that Tuor didn't give into the darkness and get broken by it, though it's worth noting that he didn't have all the power of Morgoth turned against his fathers family for defiance (because his father was killed outright rather than taken captive). OTOH, none of the narratives ever confirm what happened to him in the end, only that, with Idril, he sailed into the Undying West from which his kind were forever barred, and was never seen again. Tolkien heavily implies an exception was made for him, but I think that only right since he overcame tragedies no less than those to which his cousin was subjected rather than being destroyed by them. On yet another hand, Tolkiens writings also indicate that it was to be Turin returned from the dead who would ultimately slay Morgoth himself and avenge his House in Middle-Earths answer to Ragnarok.

I used to say it can always get worse and usually will, but have also heard that where there's life there's hope. You're probably doing better than most of my countrymen if only because you're aware of your conditions and opportunities. Sorry things have been tough this far, and here's hoping they get much better very fast.
