I battled a similar virus (how it got on to my work laptop I will never understand) and only by virtue of having the Rkiller exe file (from bleepingcomputer.com) hiding in a backup file was I able to rescue the machine. It took about fifty reboots until I could type fast enough to dos-command my way to running the RKiller file to log the virus filename before the virus locked it, but. I. Prevailed.
Of course, the virus was a destructive one and repairing was just a stupid idea (empty Start menu say hai) so I had it re-imaged, but at least I was able to save all my local work files.

You don't have to be a big fan to acknowledge it's at least very nearly as good, and free.
