And the receptionist is wearing glasses. Somehow I don't think this is good pr.
I am not sure how I feel about laser treatment, and have decided not to explore my feelings on the subject either.
So instead, I'm posting a survey!
1. Do you wear glasses or contacts?
Used too, before surgery.
Should you?
2. How bad/good is your eye sight?
Before surgery it was something 20/1000. Yes, 1000. I could not see the gigantic "E" that takes up the entire eye chart. To view my alarm clock at night I had to put it directly up to my eyes.
3. Would you ever consider getting your eyes lasered?
Did it last year this time.
4. Have you had laser surgery? Are you happy with it?
Very happy with it. I almost was not a candidate because y sight was so bad. They calculated my corneal thickness after surgery right at the limit. They even warned me that because they were removing so much material that I might still need driving glasses or that the surgery might not old for the rest of my life because the cornea might weaken over time. My eyes have healed now, but they are going to do my left eye because again as it is still a little off but they want to wait another three or four months to make sure.
Oh, I had LASEK too instead of LASIK due to the severity of the correction.
5. Would you be able to survive without glasses or contacts?
6. If you would get laser surgery, what would your reasons be?
I got it because 1) I could finally afford it - it used to be a lot more expensive, and 2) I have always been worried about breaking glasses or ripping contacts at some critical time and then not being able to see. I like to nap a lot too and falling asleep with contacts in was brutal. General inconvenience and so on. Probably many of the same reasons you are considering it.
One of my main reasons for getting surgery is that my eye sight is rather poor. If I ever get into an emergency situation without my glasses or contacts, I'm unlikely to be doing well.
My general advice is to study the procedure and see what it is about. Look at several doctors, most here anyway offer free consultations where they do the initial reading to see if you are a candidate. Don't let them upsell you on the surgical implants or anything. If you are a candidate for LASIK or LASEK then those surgeries are well tested and affordable.
Do yourself a favor and do not watch the surgery on YouTube or anything. The surgery isn't bad and it is very quick. Your eyes are numbed and held open with tape. The weirdest part of the surgery to me was the solution they pour into the eye.I think it alcohol based or something and you can feel it evaporating off the eye like alcohol on the skin. It just makes for a strange feeling but it isn't painful at all. I think each eye took the doctor like two or three minutes at most.
Healing was fast. I had surgery on Thursday at 4:00 and could drive to work by Monday and the doctor's to get the temporary contacts out. You don't get temp contacts with LASIK and the healing is even faster.
I guess that's all for now but if you have more questions I would be happy to answer them.

I've read it destroys your night vision. Do you need to drive at night? *NM*
