And the receptionist is wearing glasses. Somehow I don't think this is good pr.
I am not sure how I feel about laser treatment, and have decided not to explore my feelings on the subject either.
So instead, I'm posting a survey!
1. Do you wear glasses or contacts?

1. Do you wear glasses or contacts?
Yes.
Should you?
Only if I want to see. The TX Dept. of Public Safety seems to feel it advisable when I drive.
2. How bad/good is your eye sight?
Remember in RotJ when Han's trying to shoot the Sarlacc off Lando while blind and he tells him "instead of a big dark blur I see a big bright blur"?
3. Would you ever consider getting your eyes lasered?
Only if I still thought I could be a fighter pilot. As it is, wearing glasses and/or contacts seems preferable than someone BURNING MY EYES WITH A LASER (using a procedure developed in Yeltsins Russia.... )
4. Have you had laser surgery? Are you happy with it?
No, and yes.
5. Would you be able to survive without glasses or contacts?
Maybe with a service dog. Seriously, a thousand years ago I'd probably be standing on a street corner with a bowl and a picture of a face with no eyes. A picture I couldn't see, of course.
6. If you would get laser surgery, what would your reasons be?
Asked and answered.
One of my main reasons for getting surgery is that my eye sight is rather poor. If I ever get into an emergency situation without my glasses or contacts, I'm unlikely to be doing well.
That's reasonable, and I know the odds of problems with laser eye surgery are also reasonably low now, but if those dice come up snake eyes (so to speak) the consequences are fairly catastrophic. I think the odds of being in an emergency situation where my eyesight would be vital but my glasses or contacts weren't available are lower than the odds of being in such a situation COMBINED with those of successful eye surgery (and from a purely statistical standpoint you have to consider all the cases where you'd need your eyes but wouldn't have your glasses BUT the laser surgery was botched and you're screwed even if you DO have glasses handy). Judgement call, and it's yours; I can't say any decision you make here is "wrong" or "bad" and would have no right to say either anyway, so best wishes with it. I tend to focus on the worst case scenario, and still wonder what the multi-decade complications of laser eye surgery might be, but the odds say you'll probably be much happier after the surgery, particularly if glasses and contacts have become a major imposition.
