One of my favorites:

(and also, to those people not posting - boo!)

I dreamed I was on some sort of a sunny cliff, on the face of the cliff, which looked out onto an ocean bay. I was there with one or two other young men, and next to us, frozen within a block of ice, there was another young man. He was frozen whole, encased with in a giant, clear ice cube; he was in a fetal position, sort of clutching onto a long, crooked tree branch, so the whole contraption had the look of a giant sort of popsicle. He was clearly dead; one of the living boys explained – and through their explanation, I witnessed – how a group at the top of the cliff would sometimes capture another boy, make them grasp the end of a tree branch, and then drag them to a pond which would freeze them whole. They would then throw the frozen boys over the cliff, and so further below, closer to the water, I could see a pile of broken, still frozen young men, all victims of the gangs above. Just a few feet behind me, on the wall of the cliff, I could also see small sand paintings, in very bright, vivid blues and reds and yellows, which were shapes and “labyrinths”. Looking across the bay, I could see that these same sand paintings were made giant on the cliffs miles away.

Later in the dream, I stood over a pool of fish, which my companion and I called “salmon”, but were fantastical, with obscene, wide mouths. The fish were also brightly colored, with huge fins and fanning tails – the sort you see in Asian drawings of fish. Someone high above on a precarious looking platform was fly fishing for them, even though the pool itself – which held perhaps a dozen or more fish – was only about the size of a small car. The water was very clear, and within the pool we could see that the fish were eating one another (though their number did not seem to decrease). The fishes’ mouths were nearly as wide as their bodies were long, with huge, human-like lips, and they would consume a fish nearly the same size as they were; the fish moved very lazily, and watching one eat the other was like watching a puzzle piece fit together. The sky seemed to grow darker off to my left, and I awoke.

I cannot even copy his manner because the manner of his prose was the manner of his thinking and that was a dazzling succession of gaps; and you cannot ape a gap because you are bound to fill it in somehow or other -- and blot it out in the process. -- Nabokov
