I've got a new kitty myself who seems to have potty issues. While she intends to go in the litter box, she often misses, first I laid down old newspapers but after she had them bunched up I got one of those clear plastic hall runner things. It helped, now at least I don't have to keep cleaning the carpet.
Good luck with your kitty!
By the way my kitty's name is Bridget or Bridie-Kitty.
