Which I prefer.
Hopefully never.
And I wonder at what point the Canadian left might decide to merge together like the Canadian right did before it won power, ending the splitting of their vote between two parties.
Hopefully never.
The string of elections was a little annoying, but forcing parties to work together can be a good thing I think. I get the feeling that too many average Canadians were put off by the Liberal Party's recent (ie. the last few years) moves. However good-intentioned they might have been, there was the sense (I thought) that they were ineffective as an Opposition party and merely going through any number of contortions to paint Harper in a bad light and try to get power for themselves. It turned me off.
My hope is that Harper will be at least somewhat moderate, and that he won't take this as a green light to run roughshod over the other parties and over anything he doesn't like. If he strays too far from Canadian values, voters can and will react against him. I feel that Harper's strength has been in how he's been forced to work with the other parties on some level, how he has had to stay somewhat moderate in order to get policies passed. If he keeps that up despite no longer really having to, I will be okay with him as Prime Minister. If he doesn't ... well, I suppose time will tell.

Good news all and all. However, the NDP being the opposistion is quite dissapointing. *NM*

I found the majority surprising. Figured it'd be another minority.

I would have preferred a minority as well.

For an election that keeps the same party in power, it certainly is a political earthquake.
