Times are tough out there in the world, and the Conservatives so far haven't flubbed up the economy, so they're the safe choice, easily. If the NDP does well as the Opposition, perhaps they'll get a chance down the road if times improve. The only hope the Liberals have right now is getting an actual good leader, something they haven't had since Prime Minister Chretien left.

I'm not Harper's biggest fan, but I'm okay with him winning for now. I don't think any of the other parties would do better at the moment, and the economy in Canada has been stable up to this point under the Conservatives. We'll see what he does with a majority.

The Liberals were tremendously stupid to call an election. They had no chance of winning, and the fact that they apparently thought they did says to me that they've been out of touch with regular Canadians. Calling a third election in the last six years simply felt like a waste of everyone's time, and now they've paid for it. And the NDP, despite becoming the Opposition for the first time and winning by far their most seats ever, actually have less influence than before because the Conservative majority no longer needs to compromise with them in order to pass policy. I hope Layton does well in his new role though. And I wonder at what point the Canadian left might decide to merge together like the Canadian right did before it won power, ending the splitting of their vote between two parties.
