Password or not, I'm rather glad I went back to all wired when it broke, since I no longer use my archaic laptop, I think most people, where wireless piggybacking are concerned, are thinking someone checking their own email or at worst downloading pirated music. So it's good to put things like this out there to let people know it can be more than someone just crowding your bandwith, but the actions of the FBI seem a bit off in this case. Besides the apparent unnecessary abuse, common sense says you send someone in first discreetly to detect if there is an unsecure wireless router corresponding to that IP address, and if so serious consideration should be given that it is a neighbor, not a member of the household, who is guilty. Busting in with the SWAT Team then seems a bad idea, when a couple plainclothes agents could execute the warrant discreetly and minimize the chance of tipping off the real perp, who you can't detect unless they make a future attempt on the router while you're there to triangulate. I normally approve of overkill, but in this case it represents a realistic chance of jeopardizing the odds of success as opposed to improving them, and even assuming the usual exaggeration, there behavior during the arrest seems very inappropriate.
The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.

I hear you, but his absurd laziness is a smaller issue than the authorities dangerous behavior.
