I like the way you put the carbon dating thing. Wheras the idea that God put dinosaur bones into the ground makes him seem a lying trickster, the idea that he created everything like that makes him more a truthful storyteller.
But it also raises fun questions like whether or not the Bible itself is one such thing. Maybe God really only just created the universe one second ago.
But it also raises fun questions like whether or not the Bible itself is one such thing. Maybe God really only just created the universe one second ago.
that God created dino bones in the dirt? I like to challenge students to this idea.....(I don't know if someone more learned then I has postulated this, but I thought it was interesting).
Take a literal account of the creation story....everything from the universe (as we know it) to humans was created in six of our 24hr days. Ok...you will notice that not long after that passage in the Bible, the story begins of the serpent, and the Fall, and everything. But here's the fun part. There is no time reference for us to know if it happened like...the next week, or a very long time later?
Ultimately, we have no idea how long Adam & Eve were in the Garden of Eden before the Fall. It could have been for a very long time....and in that time, any sort of thing could have happened to whatever was roaming the earth....including dinos.
There's a verse in the Bible which says that our ways are not God's ways. This is a comforting thought considering my ways often screw things up, and I don't always think of everything. God, on the other hand, has a bigger perspective and can think of everything.
So we live in a world where even the ground...and the stuff in the ground...says that the world is very, very old. And in our intellect, we have created concepts which explain this. But it comes down to...do we have the faith to believe in God *despite* what the dirt is telling us? After all...even when it comes to what we think the dirt is telling us...we still have to take that on faith. So which faith is stronger?

You assume we all know, and agree on, what "soul" means.

It is what hope, which is a thing with feathers, perches on.

it wouldn't change much for me, but I'm pretty flexible in my spiritual beliefs
