Gah, weddings. Camilla Send a noteboard - 04/04/2011 03:43:51 PM
So, I've been engaged for over a year now, and we haven't set a wedding date yet.

I like this, as I like being engaged. And planning a wedding sounds like an awful lot of work to me (and probably requires throwing a lot of money at it, too). I'm not really the kind of woman who's been planning her marriage since the age of 4.

I do have a vague sense that I want to throw a really cool party.

I sympathise. I wasn't going to get married, because I thought it was deeply silly. Pragmatism wins, however; but I am resisting the cliché of the matching napkins and the colour coordination with all my heart. I want a big party. That is all.

So on to the survey:

1. 'Did you ever attend a wedding? (if not, prob this survey isn't for you)

A couple, yes.

2. Do you like weddings?

Meh. Sure. They are all right. There is often good food, and I like to cry at speeches. But I get hives from the matching everythings and the impersonal format.

3. Did you ever organize a wedding? (Was it your own?)

Am currently doing it. In theory, anyway.

4. What was the best wedding you ever went to, and why was it so good? (cue for: my own, because I love my spouse so much! real intention of question is that I want to know what made the party fun)

I am not sure I can single out a single wedding. All weddings I have been to have had good things (things that only worked there, because they were particular to that couple) and things that made me cringe (did I mention matching napkins and flowers?). I think I am better at explaining what does not work than what works.

5. What kind of wedding would you like to throw yourself (if you were to marry at some point)?

We are having it in my mother's garden (decided in a haze on wine many years ago and too late to go back on, despite me realising that outside in summer there are bugs and weather in Norway really does not work with outside seating). No white dress. Civil official marrying us just before dinner. No white dress, did I mention? Everyone has to wear a hat. No matching napkins.

6. Do you like traditional weddings, or ones that do something unique/funny?

I think you can guess from my earlier replies.

If you don't want drama, don't invite family. Seriously, listen to the voice of experience here. *NM* - 04/04/2011 04:07:42 PM 397 Views
