I asked my fiancé on a day I'd planned for quite a few months, but then ruined a couple of weeks Helene Send a noteboard - 04/04/2011 03:20:41 PM
beforehand. Long story. He already knew I was going to ask him by then... so I just asked him in the morning after sex.

Does one say: "Will you marry me?" like in the films, or do people rather say: "Do you want to be engaged?". Because if it's the former, then I'd find it awkward not to set a date soon after. And if one of the two comes up with a date, how do things proceed from there? I dunno, sounds odd.

I asked him if he wanted to marry me, I think. I'm not entirely sure. But we haven't set a wedding date yet. First we want to move, so that's already a lot of money, and then we haven't even started saving for the wedding. So I think it'll take a while.

I'd have to say yes, given it's thrown by the right people.

What's the worst wedding you've been to?

My friend Werner and his wife rented this castle / youth hostel for all of us from Friday through Sunday, so the whole circle of friends spent three days in a beautiful castle, celebrating, drinking, laughing. Not only was it the best wedding I ever been to, hands down, it was probably also the best party. Which is just like it's supposed to be.

That sounds lovely and extremely expensive!

I find a lot depends on the location. If it's a cool one and the weather plays along, not much can go wrong. Also: no traditional dance music for the old people. My wedding, my music. This is my day, not my grandma's. I like the thought of a white, open tent on a beautiful green lawn, whenever I think about a wedding. Problem is, I don't think I am cut out for the mere idea of getting married.

That sounds lovely as well. Although more daring, in case the weather turns nasty. As for whether or not you're cut out for marriage... I am a firm believer that not everyone is cut out for life long commitments. But who knows, may be you'll surprise yourself one day.
