The goal of this survey is not only to entertain you, but to actually NOT get moved. It's like I'm a newb or something. argh.
1. How old where you when you got your first job?
Rather older than most people, I think, unless you count mowing the lawn for my mother. Either nineteen or twenty, I think.
2. What was your first job?
Freelance translation (French and English to Dutch) during uni. As for real jobs, my current job (administration at an international logistics company - rather more fun than it sounds like).
3. How long did you work there?
Well, it was freelance so it doesn't really apply, but I did the occasional translation for that company for a little less than a year, I think. My real job now, been working there for four months now.
4. What's the oldest person you know who is (or was) sponging off their parents still (I do NOT mean college students, but say that guy down the street who lets his gf pay for their fun, and lives with his mom - all while not going to school or working for no other reason than... he doesn't feel like getting a job)
Don't think I know any who are particularly old. My cousin's boyfriend fit that description to some extent until recently, but he has a job now and they're living together. He'll be, I don't know, 28 or so.
One of my HS French teachers still lived with his mother while over fifty, but obviously he was the breadwinner in the household by then.
5. (If you live in a part of the world where you have to drive) How old were you when you got your driver's license?
Still haven't got it, I'm afraid. And I'm twenty-three.
6. Did you wait way past the time when you COULD get your license?
Well, yes, obviously. Many people here try to get it out of the way when they turn eighteen, but then they'll spend five years or more barely ever needing it, so I didn't see the point of that. Except of course that one does have more time for practicing while in college than when one is working full-time, as I'm finding out now.
7. Did you graduate from college?
Yep.
8. What did you major in?
Economics and Arabic/Islamic studies.
9. Did you get a job in your field?
Hm. I got a job that is related in a way to both of my fields - some of the files I do administration for are with customers in the Middle East, and every once in a while I get to use my Arabic, hopefully more in the future - but it's not really in either field.
10. If not, what do you do? Did you need a degree to get this job?
Yes, but a lesser degree (and a single one instead of two) would've sufficed, so in terms of degrees I'm kinda overqualified (looking at the whole, not so much).
There is my 10 questions for the day. Maybe I'll ask more tomorrow. Maybe.
Good idea.
