Apparently it has less people and activity and is thus less imposing, too.

Or so says the girl who was intimidated by all the people and the frenetic pace of Austin, since she's only ever been to small quiet places like Rome, Paris and London.
But ya'll had a nice time though, right? Are ya'll home now, or still sight seeing? You left here just in time, btw; the next day the rain got really bad, then turned to snow with 30 or 40 mph wind, and ever since it's looked like those pictures you see of Antartica that are nothing but snow being whipped across the tundra. The balcony's covered, and we're not sure if it fell there or just got blown there a day or two after it fell. Come back in summer; it's glorious.
They've always said Paris is incredible in the spring though, so here's hoping you had a nice time, dogs notwithstanding. No problems with French people knowing yet refusing to speak English? I remember mother saying that when she was there most people seemed to like America (and Texans), they just really hated our government; hopefully now that Obama's in the White House and the French have decided it's actually a GOOD idea to send fighters after Qadaffi things went a bit smoother for ya'll. We have to trade pics once everyone's settled back in again (Lene has much better pics of ya'll in front of Nidarosdomen than the ones I took with your camera; sorry about that).

Um... Paris constrains the river Seine, not the other way around. *NM*

And no fault line running under it, and without a river

Most of what you wrote about could apply to NYC.

Sounds like you encountered a university professor moonlighting as a bum.

So the homeless of Paris speak 4 languages more than the well educated French? *NM*
