Because there have been too many cases of people wrongfully convicted of capital crimes like this.

And now they're refusing him any compensation because of a technical glitch?

It's cases like this that make me despair of the legal system here. A man loses 18 years of his life, he deserves compensation for all that he has lost; and no technical glitch should be used as any kind of excuse!

If the human brain were so simple we could understand it, we would be so simple we couldn't understand it.
