This is what I do not get. It seems like such a strange term to use to describe it. It does not fit with the historical connotations as far as my brain can work out. Yet it seems to have been taken up by several. Why?

If they're being accused in print of something that doesn't involve them, it's libel, and since the "something" is murder and attempted murder, it's bloody: Blood libel. That it's a term popularized by the nazis, even farther right than the US far right, and that OUR right insists the nazis were LIBERALS (I think the syllogism is "all liberals are bad, the nazis were bad; therefore, the nazis were liberals" ) just makes it more absurdly terrifying. They seem to actually BELIEVE people like Rep. Giffords are the villains here. Same reason a bunch of xenophobes who want to deport everyone who isn't white feel entitled to cast themselves in the role of Jews in Nazi Germany. The government has them UNDER SEIGE; that's why they have to get guns and--actually, show me the secret handshake before I say anything more....
